Beaded Pins Workshop and Pattern

An original design by Marcia Acker-Missall - © 2002

A two or three day workshop

Inspire admiration and envy by all those who see this unique and beautifully bead embellished, painted and hand sculpted face pin. The primary objective of this class is to enrich and expand the student's visual and design vocabulary by introducing them to the Renaissance of beading and it's versatility as a decorative devise, while creating an exquisite piece of jewelry.

With techniques learned in this workshop, the student will be launched into the exciting realm of surface embellishment. They will be introduced to new visions and techniques with which to create enriched embellishments for doll's costuming, jeweled accessories for themselves, and to creating a voluptuously beaded doll's face for a cloth doll that will lead a double life as a doll face pin while not being worn by it's human owner. As the student's skills are refined they will find that within this art form, one explores sculpting, painting, and beading all in one piece. This project can easily be translated for use in many doll-making endeavors.

This workshop focuses on learning techniques for the student to put to immediate use in class. Marcia will be at the student's side guiding them through the various steps and stitches leading to their completed pin. Emphasis is placed on creating an ornamental beaded surface with movement and textural excitement surrounding the face thus transforming each pin in to a magical work of art. I encourage experimentation and appreciation for making artistic creations by design and to enjoy unplanned surprises. This is an adventure in Serendipity.

Techniques to be taught in the Two and Three Day Classes are:
